Cynthia Figueroa joins JEVS Human Services, the largest human services and employment non-profit in the region, as President and Chief Executive Officer. In her new role, Ms. Figueroa will work with an exceptional team to expand opportunities for those JEVS serves.
With more than 20 years of experience, Ms. Figueroa has a proven history in executive and governmental leadership. She has devoted her career to helping improve the lives of vulnerable children and families.
Most recently, Ms. Figueroa has served as Deputy Mayor of the Office of Children and Families (OCF) for the City of Philadelphia. Before becoming Deputy Mayor, Ms. Figueroa served as Commissioner of the Philadelphia Department of Human Services (DHS). The Department is the city agency charged with protecting children from abuse, neglect and delinquency and is the largest child welfare agency in Pennsylvania.
Prior to her appointment as Commissioner by Mayor Jim Kenney, Ms. Figueroa served as President and CEO of Congreso de Latinos Unidos. There she had fiscal oversight of $25 million dedicated to strengthening Latino communities through social, economic, education and health services.
Earlier, Ms. Figueroa served as Deputy Commissioner for DHS and was instrumental in enhancing relationships with key stakeholders including the School District of Philadelphia, other City Departments and the provider community.
In addition to her roles at DHS and Congreso, Ms. Figueroa has served as Executive Director of Women Against Abuse. Early in her career, she worked on the front line serving clients in a variety of settings, including programs for female offenders, persons living with HIV/AIDS and victims of domestic violence.
Ms. Figueroa has been the recipient of several awards for her leadership service including the prestigious Eisenhower Fellowship, the University of Pennsylvania Outstanding Leadership Award, the National Football League/Philadelphia Eagles Hispanic Heritage Leadership Award, the Peter B. Goldberg Aramark Building Community Executive Leadership Award and the Hispanic Bar Association La Justicia Award.
Ms. Figueroa serves on the USA Board of Trustees for United Way. Born in Arecibo Puerto Rico, she has a bachelor’s degree from Spring Hill College.
